WORKSHOP REGISTRATION

ACTIVATE, LISTEN, EMPOWER:
A Special Workshop for Museum Educators

DATES: August 7, 2019 | 9:00AM – 4:00PM

Join us for an interactive session, which will feature case studies and examples of how museums across the country have tackled the challenges of interpreting difficult history within today’s social climate; as well as gain tools, techniques, and resources.

The workshop will include a presentation by the National Park Service on community engagement regarding difficult history, a curator’s tour of the Mississippi Museum of Art’s exhibition A Tale of Two Collections, and engage in one of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum’s educational programs Under the Light: Africa before the Slave Trade.

Educators will discuss current trends and challenges in the field. Workshop will feature a listening session to re-establish a community of practice among museum educators of AAAM.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

COST: $30 Registration Fee

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Educators and Interpreters from African American museums, libraries, historic sites and cultural centers in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean seeking insight on how technology can extend their institutional capacity, thereby making their collections and programs more accessible to the communities they serve.

TIME COMMITMENT: Wednesday, August 7 (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
(All participants will be required to attend both days of the workshop to receive the Certificate of Completion).

LOCATION: Mississippi Museum of Art
(Transportation will be provided from the Westin Hotel & Hilton Garden Inn).
