Rescheduled: Jackson State University | Margaret Walker Center: 53rd Annual Gibbs-Green Commemoration
June 7 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Join the Margaret Walker Center at Jackson State University for the 53rd Annual Gibbs-Green Commemoration and wreath-laying in Ayer Hall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
This year, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a virtual reality (VR) experience, examining the tragic shooting that took place on May 14, 1970. Please note that this content may be upsetting and triggering to viewers due to depictions of police violence and gunshot noises. Parental guidance is advised as the experience may not be suitable for young children.
The traditional Gibbs-Green wreath-laying will begin at 4 p.m., followed by a brief reception, and then the unveiling of the VR program. Attendees may view the VR experience independently in a separate, designated space or collectively at the conclusion of the event. A clinical psychologist will be present, and a quiet room will be made available for anyone who may need space for reflection.
