IMLS Advocacy Update
Today, IMLS staff were placed on administrative leave, and at this time, it is unclear who remains within the agency to address questions. We do not want to speculate on the future of existing grants—while rumors are circulating, we urge our members to rely only on official announcements.
AAAM remains steadfast in our commitment to advocating for our members and the institutions dedicated to preserving African American history and culture. We are in close consultation with AAM and other allies as we assess the situation and determine the best course of action. As we work on actionable steps for the field at large, we also want to keep the IMLS staff in our thoughts during this uncertain time.
We are actively monitoring developments and will keep you informed as more information becomes available. Your work is invaluable, and we remain dedicated to ensuring that federal support for our field is protected. Please know that we are here to advocate for you and will continue to fight for the resources our institutions need to thrive.
In Solidarity,
Vedet Colman-Robinson, Ph.D.
