In 2022, Worcester, Massachusetts, marked its 300th anniversary, offering a chance for the city to reflect on its history. This history includes stories of the strength and resilience of people enslaved in the county, like Quock Walker, whose trials took place in Worcester, and Obour Tanner, a dear friend of Phillis Wheatly Peters. It also includes the stories of enslavers in colonial Worcester County, like those who held prominent town positions as government officials, military officers, and reverends. Come hear about how these different threads of history connect to contemporary artwork and can help us deepen our understanding of the city, county, and Commonwealth.
