About this Event

Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park’s Anniversary Forum:

“Now What?”

2020 has presented several challenges for America. The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted schools, businesses and the lives of millions of citizens. It has changed our interaction with each other and has forced us to connect digitally in order to function. The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbury, Breonna Taylor and others have caused a new introspection on race, racial profiling and the criminal justice system. The economic downshift has closed long standing businesses and has negatively impacted the financial standing of the country. As America and the world look to move forward and adjust, Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park wants to spark conversation on how that happens.

Last year’s forum, “Access: Who Has It?” looked at the issues revolving around historic and contemporary access in 21st Century America. This year’s session will examine how the various issues 2020 has presented, has us at a pivotal point in this country’s history. The pandemic, racial unrest and financial problems has America at a crossroads. “Now What?” will look at voting in 2020, how the Criminal Justice System moves forward given this “racial awakening,” advanced conversation about Race and the impact of the pandemic on the digital /educational divide in America. The Forum will take place digitally on October 21 – 22, 2020 on Historic Mitchelville Platforms from 3PM until 6PM.
