How Safe Are You – Continuing Discussion: Combating and Responding to Security Issues in Black Museums
Do you recognize behaviors, actions, and situations that result in unsafe environments for you, your staff, visitors, infrastructure and technology? This panel will share examples of behavior, actions, and situations which may lead to undesired results. Personal safety and security are equally as important as a collection’s safety and security. Debriefings after a disastrous event should include a detailed review of what led up to a negative outcome. A retrospective analysis may prove to be beneficial.
To be considered:
– What is the cost to develop strategies to help prevent or minimalize the negative impact of behaviors, actions, and situations?
– What role does the current cultural and political climate (civil unrest, protests, elections, etc.) have on your safety and response?
– Have there been “any” threats to you, your staff, or organization in the past?
– Have you done a risk assessment to determine specific actions required?
– What is your sense of discernment?
– What was used in the past that may not work in current situations.
The audience is invited to share situations anonymously that have been encountered and required mitigation. Mitigation strategies are welcomed for discussion.
Hosted by the AAAM Security Working Group.
