AAAM2026 Minor Attendance Policy & Disclosure
The Association of African American Museums (AAAM) welcomes families to participate in the AAAM2026 Annual Conference. However, parents and legal guardians should carefully consider whether conference programming is appropriate for minors.
The AAAM Annual Conference is designed primarily for a professional audience of museum practitioners, scholars, educators, college-aged students, cultural heritage professionals, and community leaders. AAAM cannot guarantee that the content, discussions, language, audiovisual presentations, films, exhibits, workshops, plenaries, tours, or other conference programming is appropriate for minors. Conference content is developedindependently by presenters and reflects a broad range of scholarly, historical, cultural, and contemporary topics that may include mature subject matter.
In addition, conference receptions, networking events, and other social functions are curated as professional networking experiences for adult attendees. These events may include the service of alcoholic beverages, music, and entertainment intended for an adult audience. Parents and legal guardians should exercise their own judgment when determining whether a minor should attend these events.
Parents and legal guardians are solely responsible for the supervision, safety, conduct, and well-being of any minor attending the conference. Minors must remain under the direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian at all times. AAAM does not provide childcare, supervision, or monitoring services and assumes no responsibility for supervising minors during conference sessions, meetings, workshops, meals, receptions, tours, exhibits, or any other conference-related activities.
By registering a minor for the conference, the parent or legal guardian acknowledges that they have independently determined that participation is appropriate for the minor and accepts full responsibility for the minor’s attendance and participation throughout the conference and by registering indemnifies and holds harmless AAAM from any liability for harm or injury that may befall any minor under the registrant’s custody and care.
To ensure a safe, professional, and enjoyable environment for all attendees, AAAM reserves the right to require the removal of any attendee, including a minor, whose conduct is disruptive, poses a safety concern, interferes with conference operations, or fails to comply with conference policies.
Conference registration policies apply equally to all attendees, including minors. Registration fees are subject to AAAM’s published cancellation and refund policy. No refunds will be issued based on the nature, content, suitability, or appropriateness of conference programming or activities for minors.
Required Registration Acknowledgement
By registering a minor for the AAAM2026 Annual Conference, I acknowledge and agree to the following:
☐ I have read and understand the AAAM2026 Minor Attendance Policy & Disclosure.
☐ I understand that AAAM cannot guarantee that conference sessions, plenaries, workshops, films, exhibits, tours, networking events, receptions, or other conference activities are appropriate for minors.
☐ I understand that I am solely responsible for the supervision, safety, conduct, and well-being of any minor attending with me and that minors attending with me shall remain under my direct supervision at all times. Accordingly, I hereby indemnify and hold harmless AAAM from any and all liability, harm or damages associated with attendance of any minor under my supervision. By signing this agreement, I acknowledge, for myself and any minor in my custody, that I am waiving any rights I/we may have against AAAM for harm or injuries that may befall any minor under my custody or care white attending the AAAM activity.

☐ I understand that AAAM reserves the right to require the removal of any attendee, including a minor, whose conduct is disruptive, poses a safety concern, interferes with conference operations, or violates conference policies.
☐ I understand and agree that conference registration fees, including those paid on behalf of minors, are subject to AAAM’s published cancellation and refund policy and that no refunds will be issued based on the content or suitability of conference programming or activities.
