Congressman James E. Clyburn to Join AAAM 2025 Conference for Historic Voting Rights Act Commemoration
Charleston, SC – April 18, 2025 – The Association of African American Museums (AAAM) is honored to announce that Congressman James E. Clyburn will join us at #AAAM2025 in Charleston, South Carolina for a powerful and timely conversation marking the 60th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act.
Congressman Clyburn will be in dialogue with Dr. Tonya Matthews, President & CEO of the International African American Museum. Together, they will reflect on the legacy, impact, and continued relevance of the Voting Rights Act—and the responsibility of cultural institutions to uplift and protect democratic engagement for African American communities.
This conversation will serve as a cornerstone of AAAM’s 2025 conference, which will be held July 23–25, 2025, and carries the theme:
“Voices of Democracy: Commemorating the Voting Rights Act’s 60th Anniversary.”
“Congressman Clyburn’s presence at this year’s conference is not only historic—it’s deeply meaningful,” said Dr. Vedet Coleman-Robinson, AAAM President & CEO. “As we face challenges to the preservation of African American history and democratic participation, this dialogue will ground our work in the legacy of progress while inspiring renewed commitment.”
AAAM invites museum professionals, scholars, students, community leaders, and supporters of African American history and culture to join us in Charleston for this extraordinary gathering. Registration is now open at www.blackmuseums.org.
