The Association of African American Museums (AAAM) has reached a milestone: 40 years of convening Black Museum professionals to advocate, collaborate, and advance the field. The 40th Anniversary AAAM Conference will be held in Hampton, Virginia, August 8-11, 2018 and hosted by the Hampton University Museum, which will be celebrating its 150th anniversary.
In light of this dual anniversary year, we invite you to join us in Hampton to gain critical insights, build alliances, reignite your passion and be replenished for the work ahead. The 2018 conference theme: Till Earth and Heaven Ring: Celebrating the Progress and Sustaining the Promise of African American Museums will examine the past 40 years of the Black Museums movement as well as look forward, interrogating the viability of Black Museums and Black Museum professionals for the next 40 years and beyond.
All conference sessions will be held at the Hampton Roads Convention Center (1610 Coliseum Drive | Hampton, VA 23666), adjacent to the Embassy Suites Hotel, unless otherwise noted on the conference schedule.
